Development update #1 (2024/09/27)

As said in previous post I will try to give some periodic updates about the status of the project. So this is the first devlog.

Progress

This time there is not much to show. I have been cleaning the code and polishing things that during the game jam were done "quick and dirty". I was stuck with some rendering bugs, fighting with matrices and wondering why images were flipped or in wrong positions. Overall, these weeks were about organization and consistency: doing things in the same way along the project.

I also added some basic json support to organize and  load the assets easily (this is used for development, not actually a game feature).

And finally, I'm working on making the tracks bigger as the original track made for the game jam was a bit small.

Next steps

Keep working. At this point there are still too many things to do before having something I can call a game. So basically I still have to:

  • Add audio.
  • Implement menus.
  • Add more tracks and multiplayer (at lease some CPU controlled cars).

I don't want to give a huge list of things as I prefer to go step by step and don't promise things unless I'm sure I can deliver them. That being said, I have many ideas I want to implement but before getting to them I want to start having a relatively solid base product.
